Eeeaaarly morning 10th of March at 04:30 we set the alarmclock get up because we had a flight to catch to Madeira at 06:30. We organized ourselves a taxi and with comfy Mercedes Benz van we reached Schiphol airport on time. Got some breakfast and after 3 hours and 35 minutes with this Transavia flight we touched down on this Portugese Island.

Because we could not check in yet at our prebooked appartment in Sao Vicente we decided to drive around the island clockwise. We passed the islands capital Funchal before we reached Cabo Girao. This cabo is with 580 meter the highest cliff of Europe. We parked the car on top at Capela Nossa Senhora de Fatima and walked down to the Cabo. Just the cabo itself is spectacular, but to make it even more spectacular, they build a challenging view point with a glass-bottom floor from where you watch almost 600 meters vertically down to the ocean water.
We thought that Switzerland build a lot of tunnels, but on this small island you literally drive from tunnel to tunnel to reach the next place. At Ribiera Brava we enjoyed our lunch at the shores of the ocean and continued to Porto Moniz from where we drove a zigzagging road down towards the city centre at sea. Time for coffee and an ice cream :o)

After a little search at Sao Vicente Rosario, we found our stay for 4 days and we were stunned and in love at first sight. Huge fully equipped kitchen, nice living room with fire place, big sleeping room…just the temperature was a bit on the cold side…This first night no other guests were present and we watched some Europa League football before going to bed…
