In the guidebook we learned that the Ordesa & Monte Perdido Nationalpark are famous for its Fajas. Hiking paths cut out of rocks exposed to high altitudes…sounded spectacular though dangerous…we decided to try one and told each other that, if it got too much, we could always turn around…We set out on the next morning to the parking area La Pradera Ordesa and 8:45a.m. we started…climbing the most steep 600 meters we’ve done ever before. Twisting and turning we got higher and higher on the mountain to eventually reach the faja itself. Still a bit nervous we first enjoyed the view of a great mirador platform and then we continued. As soon as we got further down the track we realized slowly that we had worried too much. Ok…sometimes the surface of the rocks went down a 180 degrees, but the path was in good condition and wide enough, not too much to worry about. The views around the valley were just superb! We slowly descended towards the valley floor and finally we reached the big waterfall at the end of it. From now on it was just a gentle 8 km. back towards the parking area on a mostly sealed track. Once we got back to the car we prepared ourselves a late lunch and immediately set off to leave Spain by taking the Bielsa – Aragnouet tunnel to eventually find a completely empty camping place near Heche at the end (or start) of the Pirineos. The owner of the place was just an amazing guy to make it as comfortable as possible for us. Although nobody was there and the restaurant was obviously closed, he made us a great tasting pizza.
