First days of trekking

The next morning we got up at 5 a.m. – something that became a daily routine from this day on. Ibrahim knocking on our tent: “Good morning. Tea for you.”. Then we would have half an hour to pack our stuff before breakfast was ready in the kitchen tent. It was cornflakes or porridge, bread, omelette and tea. After the breakfast and having packed everything we always started walking around 7 a.m. Apart from Yaya and Ibrahim there were 5 other porters carrying 150 kg of food, the tents and their own stuff. We carried our own backpacks, still around 12-13 kg. Our first trekking day started on 3300 meter. The next 2 days the way went up quite gently, we were walking around 7-8 hours every day along the Braldu and Biaho River, crossing some brigdes on the way, walking through a lot of sand and over stones. The second night we camped in Paiyu on 3666 meter, a quite bustling campsite high above the river, where we first came across other tourists. It was also the last camp before the Baltoro Glacier.
